Homemade hot cocoa bar

Pull out all your pretty mugs, no matter the pattern and throw a tobogganing or skating party. Afterwards, get toasty with this easy homemade hot chocolate bar.

Keep cocoa warm in a catering container or small slow cooker. Set out a tray with bowls of homemade caramel sauce, mini marshmallows, whipped cream, pretzels and cinnamon sticks, as well as shakers of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.

Homemade caramel sauce

    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 tsp vanilla
    • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
    • 1/2 cup 35% cream


  • Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium. Add sugar. Bring to a gentle boil, whisking occasionally. Cook for 3 min.
  • Stir in vanilla and salt until dissolved. Remove from heat and let stand 1 min. Whisk in cream until sauce is smooth.

Tip: Bring a stash of hot cocoa to the rink or sledding hill.
